Endometrial cells in pap smear can sometimes be caused by vulvar vestibulitis or human papilloma virus. Women who have revealed the presence of these tissues are often diagnosed with ASCUS and may want to undergo endocervical curettage and biopsy. Many women who are still having menses are unlikely to have cancer, as these shed tissues are normal.
