A pap generally occurs before a cone biopsy for HPV. It is a term used for Papanicolaou test, which was developed to detect early signs of cervical cancer. A swab of loose cells of the outer cervical lining are placed in a solution and are microscopically analyzed to determine if any cellular abnormalities are present. A pap generally occurs before a cone biopsy for HPV.
