Inconclusive Pap

Inconclusive pap smear is performed to determine the presence of abnormal cells, but the exact reason of abnormal vaginal discharge and other problems can be determined with a cone biopsy. Also, slight irregularities associated with minor cervical infections, menopausal fluctuations, douching, or other irritations can cause some confusion. The quality gathering and preserving the specimen, or the presence unrecognizable or borderline cellular changes too difficult to classify affect the result. An undetermined cytology means the specimen was difficult to differentiate.
