Of the two diagnosis’s ascus agus, Atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance (AGUS) is relatively uncommon with different treatment than for an ascus diagnosis and other viruses are sometimes also present such as vulvar infections with vaginal discharge. Women at risk for cancer of the cervix should be tested more frequently. If a woman has three annual negative Pap tests in a row, testing may be less frequent. All women are recommended to have yearly Pap smears beginning at the age of 18 or when they become sexually active. Women diagnosed with Atypical Glandular cells of Undetermined Significance Pap smears are much more likely to be associated with more severe underlying abnormalities.
