Pap Smear Period
With a pap smear, period/menses should have ceased for 10 days for accurate detection of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus).
Women are also advised to avoid sex and douching 24-48 hours before pelvic examination, as this can lead to changes in the cells and make them look abnormal. Refrain from the use of vaginal creams and jellies for more accurate results. Test results are usually done 7 to 10 days after the examination.
